Sweet potato gratin

Posted on March 13, 2026 by Admin

Sweet Potato Gratin is a rich, creamy baked dish made with thinly sliced sweet potatoes layered with cream, cheese, and seasonings. It’s a delicious side dish for family dinners or holidays.

🍠 Sweet Potato Gratin

Ingredients (serves 4–6)

  • 2–3 large Sweet potato, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese (or cheddar)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme or rosemary (optional)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven
    • Set oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. Prepare the cream mixture
    • In a bowl, mix heavy cream, milk, garlic, salt, pepper, and herbs.
  3. Layer the potatoes
    • Place a layer of sliced sweet potatoes in the baking dish.
    • Sprinkle some Gruyère cheese over the layer.
    • Repeat layers until ingredients are used.
  4. Add cream
    • Pour the cream mixture evenly over the potatoes.
  5. Top with cheese
    • Sprinkle Parmesan on top for a golden crust.
  6. Bake
    • Cover with foil and bake 30 minutes.
    • Remove foil and bake another 20–25 minutes until potatoes are tender and the top is golden.
  7. Rest and serve
    • Let it sit for 10 minutes before serving so the sauce thickens.

💡 Tips

  • For extra flavor, add thinly sliced onions or cooked bacon between layers.
  • Use a mandoline slicer so the potatoes cook evenly.
  • A sprinkle of chopped parsley on top adds freshness.

If you’d like, I can also show you a restaurant-style sweet potato gratin that uses caramelized onions and tastes even richer. 🍠🧀
