Schlumbergera truncata

Schlumbergera truncata is a popular flowering cactus houseplant commonly called the Thanksgiving cactus. It is native to the coastal mountains of southeastern Brazil and is widely grown indoors because it blooms with colorful flowers during the late autumn and winter season.

🌿 Key Characteristics

  • Plant type: Epiphytic cactus (grows on trees in nature rather than in desert soil)
  • Leaves: Flat, segmented stems with pointed “teeth” on the edges
  • Flowers: Bright pink, red, white, orange, or purple tubular flowers
  • Bloom time: Usually around November (hence the name Thanksgiving cactus)

🌼 Thanksgiving vs Christmas Cactus

People often confuse it with the Schlumbergera bridgesii.
