🥔 Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 4–5 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups milk (or half-and-half for creamier)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup grated cheese (cheddar works well)
  • 1 garlic clove, minced (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: chopped parsley for garnish

  1. Preheat Oven
    • Preheat to 180 °C (350 °F).

    • In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
    • Stir in flour and cook 1–2 min to make a roux.
    • Gradually whisk in milk until smooth and thickened.
    • Add half the cheese, garlic (if using), salt, and pepper.
  3. Layer the Potatoes
    • Grease a baking dish.
    • Place a layer of potato slices, pour a little sauce over them.
    • Repeat until all potatoes are layered, finishing with sauce on top.
  4. Add Cheese
    • Sprinkle remaining cheese over the top layer.
  5. Bake
    • Cover with foil and bake for 40 min.
    • Remove foil and bake another 20–25 min until potatoes are tender and top is golden.
  6. Serve
    • Let it cool 5 min, garnish with parsley, and enjoy!
