Red onion

Posted on April 14, 2026 by Admin

Red onion is a type of onion with a purple-red skin and mild to slightly sweet flavor compared to white or yellow onions.

🧅 What it’s used for

Red onion is commonly used in:

  • Salads (raw slices add crunch and color)
  • Burgers and sandwiches
  • Pickling (turns bright pink when pickled)
  • Salsa and chutneys
  • Grilling or roasting (becomes sweeter)

🥗 Taste & texture

  • Raw: sharp, slightly spicy but milder than white onion
  • Cooked: soft, sweet, and less pungent

đź’Ş Nutrition benefits

  • Rich in antioxidants (especially quercetin)
  • Contains vitamin C and fiber
  • May support heart health and reduce inflammation

⚠️ Tip

If raw red onion tastes too strong, soaking slices in cold water or lemon juice for 10–15 minutes makes it milder.

If you want, tell me what you’re making—I can suggest the best way to use red onion in that dish.
