Potato bake

Potato Bake (often called creamy baked potatoes or scalloped potatoes) is a comforting dish made with sliced potatoes baked in a creamy, cheesy sauce until tender and golden. 🥔🧀


Ingredients

  • 4–5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream or milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar works well)
  • 1 small onion, finely sliced (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika or dried herbs (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven
    Heat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. Layer the Potatoes
    Place a layer of sliced potatoes in the dish.
    Add some onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and cheese.
    Repeat layers until all ingredients are used.
  3. Add Cream
    Pour the cream or milk evenly over the potatoes.
  4. Top with Cheese
    Sprinkle remaining cheese on top and add small pieces of butter.
  5. Bake
    Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes.
    Remove foil and bake another 20–25 minutes until golden and tender.
  6. Serve
    Let it rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.

Tips

  • Add bacon pieces or ham for extra flavor.
  • Use sweet potatoes for a slightly sweeter version.
  • Sprinkle parsley or green onions on top before serving.
