🧴 Mixing Baking Soda and Vinegar in a Spray Bottle

Mixing baking soda and vinegar is often suggested for cleaning, but it’s important to understand what actually happens.

⚗️ What Happens Chemically

  • Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is a base.
  • Vinegar (acetic acid) is an acid.
  • When mixed, they react and produce:
    • Carbon dioxide gas (bubbles)
    • Water
    • Sodium acetate (a mild salt)

This is why the mixture fizzes and foams.

⚠️ Important Safety Note

Putting them together in a sealed spray bottle can be dangerous because:

  • The reaction produces gas pressure.
  • Pressure can build up and burst the bottle.

So it’s not recommended to mix and store them together in a closed container.

🧹 Better Ways to Use Them for Cleaning

Option 1: Use Separately

  1. Sprinkle baking soda on a surface (sink, drain, stain).
  2. Spray vinegar on top.
  3. Let it fizz and loosen dirt.
  4. Scrub and rinse.

Option 2: Vinegar Spray

  • Mix 1 part vinegar + 1 part water in a spray bottle for:
    • Glass
    • Countertops
    • Bathroom surfaces

Option 3: Baking Soda Scrub

  • Mix baking soda with a little water to make a paste for tough stains.
