Posted on March 17, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a simple guide to making mashed potatoes with gravy, a classic comfort food pairing:

Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients (4 main)

  1. 2 lbs potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet)
  2. 4 tbsp butter
  3. ½ cup milk or cream (adjust for desired creaminess)
  4. Salt to taste

(Optional: pepper, garlic, or cream cheese for extra flavor)

Instructions

  1. Peel and cube the potatoes.
  2. Boil in salted water for 15–20 minutes until tender.
  3. Drain and return to the pot.
  4. Mash with butter and gradually add milk until smooth.
  5. Season with salt (and optional pepper) to taste.

Gravy

Ingredients (4 main)

  1. 2 tbsp butter
  2. 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  3. 1 cup broth (chicken, beef, or vegetable)
  4. Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Stir in flour to make a roux; cook 1–2 minutes until slightly golden.
  3. Gradually whisk in broth, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
  4. Simmer 3–5 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.

Serving

  • Spoon creamy mashed potatoes onto a plate and pour warm gravy over the top.
  • Optionally, garnish with chopped parsley or chives.

✅ Tips

  • For extra creamy potatoes, use half-and-half or heavy cream.
  • For richer gravy, add a splash of soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce.
  • Make ahead: Keep mashed potatoes warm in a covered dish; reheat with a splash of milk.
