Living alone comes with freedom, but it also means certain habits can put your safety, health, or well-being at risk. Here are 4 things you should never do if you live alone:

1. Ignore Home Security

  • Leaving doors or windows unlocked, or posting your absence on social media, increases risk of burglary.
  • Tip: Always lock doors/windows, use timers for lights, and consider a basic security system or camera.

2. Skip Regular Health Check-ups

  • Living alone can make it easier to ignore minor symptoms.
  • Tip: Schedule annual physicals, dental visits, and eye exams; don’t wait for someone else to notice changes in your health.

3. Neglect Social Connection

  • Isolation can lead to loneliness, depression, or anxiety.
  • Tip: Maintain friendships, join clubs or classes, or check in with family/friends regularly.

4. Take Risks Alone

  • Activities like climbing ladders, doing heavy lifting, or using power tools alone can be dangerous.
  • Tip: Have a phone nearby, let someone know when doing risky tasks, or ask for help.

💡 Extra tip: Living alone requires being extra mindful about routines, safety, and mental health—small precautions can prevent big problems.

I can also make a longer checklist of safety habits for people living alone if you want to feel fully prepared. Do you want me to do that?
