Here are the normal blood pressure values according to age

Posted on April 12, 2026 by Admin

Here are the general normal blood pressure (BP) ranges by age. These are average clinical guidelines—individual “normal” can vary slightly.

🩺 🧒 Children (1–12 years)

Blood pressure increases gradually with age.

  • 1–5 years: ~90–105 / 55–70 mmHg
  • 6–12 years: ~95–115 / 60–75 mmHg

🧑 Teenagers (13–17 years)

  • Normal: ~105–120 / 65–80 mmHg

🧑‍🦱 Adults (18–59 years)

  • Normal: <120 / <80 mmHg
  • Elevated: 120–129 / <80
  • High (Hypertension Stage 1): 130–139 / 80–89
  • High (Stage 2): ≥140 / ≥90

👴 Older adults (60+ years)

  • Often slightly higher is still considered acceptable:
    • Typical range: ~120–140 / 70–90 mmHg
  • Doctors focus more on overall health and symptoms rather than very strict numbers.

⚠️ Important notes

  • Blood pressure is not fixed—it changes with:
    • stress 😟
    • activity 🚶
    • sleep 😴
    • caffeine ☕
  • One reading is not enough for diagnosis—multiple readings over time are needed.

💡 Quick takeaway

  • Ideal adult BP: around 120/80 mmHg
  • Consistently ≥140/90 mmHg = high blood pressure
