Hamburger Potato Casserole

Posted on March 9, 2026 by Admin

Frozen pierogi are pre-made, uncooked or partially cooked dumplings, usually filled with ingredients like potatoes, cheese, sauerkraut, meat, or fruit. They are a convenient way to enjoy this classic Eastern European dish without making them from scratch.

How to Cook Frozen Pierogi

1. Boiling (most common)

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  • Add frozen pierogi, stirring gently to prevent sticking.
  • Cook until they float to the surface plus 2–3 minutes.
  • Remove with a slotted spoon and serve with butter, onions, or sour cream.

2. Pan-Frying (crispy)

  • Boil pierogi first (or use thawed ones).
  • Heat butter or oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Fry pierogi 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.

3. Baking (less common)

  • Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F).
  • Arrange pierogi on a baking sheet, brush with oil or butter.
  • Bake 15–20 minutes until lightly golden.

Serving Ideas

  • With sautéed onions and bacon bits
  • Topped with sour cream or crème fraîche
  • Sweet pierogi (fruit-filled) with powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar

Tips

  • Do not thaw too long before cooking, or they may stick or tear.
  • For extra flavor, mix butter with fresh herbs and toss cooked pierogi before serving.
  • Frozen pierogi are versatile and can also be added to soups or casseroles.

I can also make a quick guide on making a creamy pierogi skillet meal using frozen pierogi, which is a one-pan dinner idea.
