Easy kitchen hood grease removal method

Posted on April 20, 2026 by Admin

Kitchen hood grease builds up fast, but you don’t need anything fancy to clean it. Here are simple, safe methods that actually work:

1. Hot water + dish soap (basic and effective)

Best for light to medium grease.

How:

  • Fill a bowl with hot (not boiling) water
  • Add a few drops of dishwashing liquid
  • Dip a sponge or cloth and wipe the hood
  • Scrub gently on greasy spots
  • Rinse with clean water and dry

Dish soap is designed to break down oil, so this works well.

2. Baking soda paste (for stubborn grease)

Good for sticky, old buildup.

How:

  • Mix baking soda + a little water → thick paste
  • Apply to greasy areas
  • Let it sit 10–15 minutes
  • Scrub with sponge
  • Wipe clean with damp cloth

3. Vinegar spray (cuts grease + deodorizes)

White vinegar helps dissolve oil residue.

How:

  • Mix equal parts vinegar + warm water in a spray bottle
  • Spray on hood surface
  • Wait 5–10 minutes
  • Wipe with cloth

4. Degreasing trick for filters

  • Remove metal filters
  • Soak in hot water + dish soap + baking soda for 15–20 min
  • Scrub gently with a brush
  • Rinse and dry completely before reinstalling

Important tips

  • Don’t use harsh metal scrubbers (they scratch surfaces)
  • Clean regularly (once every 1–2 weeks prevents heavy buildup)
  • Turn off power before cleaning near lights or switches

Bottom line

The best combo is hot water + dish soap for routine cleaning and baking soda for heavy grease.

If you want, I can give you a “5-minute quick clean method” for daily maintenance so grease never builds up again.
