Crumb cake

Here’s a classic Crumb Cake recipe (also called coffee crumb cake). It has a soft buttery cake base topped with a thick layer of sweet cinnamon crumbs.


🍰 Classic Crumb Cake

Ingredients

For the Crumb Topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • Pinch of salt

For the Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Make the Crumb Topping

  1. In a bowl mix flour, brown sugar, sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. Pour in melted butter and mix with a fork until large crumbs form.
  3. Set aside.

2. Prepare the Cake Batter

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  3. In a bowl combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. In another bowl beat butter and sugar until fluffy.
  5. Add eggs and vanilla, mixing well.
  6. Alternately add the dry ingredients and milk, mixing until smooth.

3. Assemble

  • Spread batter evenly in the pan.
  • Sprinkle the crumb topping generously over the batter.

4. Bake

  • Bake 35–40 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the cake comes out clean.

5. Cool and Serve

  • Let cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar if desired.

💡 Tips

  • Add chopped pecans or walnuts to the crumb topping for extra crunch.
  • Serve warm with coffee or tea.
  • This cake stores well for 2–3 days at room temperature.
