Chili cheese fries

Posted on February 25, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a delicious, crowd-pleasing chili cheese fries recipe you can make at home. I’ll break it down step by step for maximum flavor. 🍟🌶️🧀

Ingredients (Serves 2–4)

For the fries:

  • 4 large russet potatoes (or 1 lb frozen fries)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the chili:

  • 1/2 lb ground beef (or turkey for leaner)
  • 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup canned diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the cheese topping:

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or a mix of cheddar and Monterey Jack)
  • Optional: 1/4 cup cheese sauce for extra gooeyness

Optional toppings:

  • Sliced jalapeños
  • Sour cream
  • Chopped green onions

Instructions

  1. Prepare the fries:
    • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
    • Cut potatoes into fries (if using fresh), toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
    • Spread on a baking sheet in a single layer.
    • Bake 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crispy.
  2. Make the chili:
    • While fries bake, heat a skillet over medium heat.
    • Cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
    • Add onion and garlic; sauté until soft (2–3 minutes).
    • Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper.
    • Simmer 10–15 minutes until slightly thickened.
  3. Assemble chili cheese fries:
    • Place baked fries on a plate or serving platter.
    • Spoon chili evenly over fries.
    • Sprinkle shredded cheese on top (or drizzle cheese sauce).
    • Optional: broil for 1–2 minutes to melt cheese perfectly.
  4. Add toppings & serve:
    • Garnish with jalapeños, sour cream, or green onions as desired.
    • Serve hot and enjoy the ultimate comfort snack!

💡 Tips for extra flavor:

  • Toss fries in garlic powder or smoked paprika before baking.
  • Add a dash of hot sauce to chili for a spicy kick.
  • Use homemade chili for best results—it clings to fries better than canned.

If you want, I can also give you a quick 20-minute “shortcut” version using frozen fries and canned chili that’s still ridiculously good.

Do you want me to do that?
