Apple cake

Here’s a classic Apple Cake recipe — moist, tender, and perfectly spiced:


🍎 Classic Apple Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup sour cream or plain yogurt
  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples (about 2–3 medium apples)

Optional Topping:

  • 2 tbsp sugar + ½ tsp cinnamon for sprinkling
  • Powdered sugar or glaze after baking

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round or square pan.
  2. Mix dry ingredients:
    Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl.
  3. Cream butter and sugar:
    Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes). Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
  4. Add sour cream:
    Mix until smooth.
  5. Combine with dry ingredients:
    Gradually fold in flour mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in apples:
    Gently stir in diced apples.
  7. Optional topping:
    Sprinkle cinnamon sugar over batter before baking.
  8. Bake:
    40–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool:
    Let cool 15 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack. Optionally drizzle with glaze or sprinkle powdered sugar.

Tips

  • Apple varieties: Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Granny Smith work best.
  • Extra moist: Fold in ½ cup chopped nuts or raisins.
  • Make it extra special: Top with a crumb topping made of ¼ cup flour, 2 tbsp butter, 2 tbsp brown sugar, and ½ tsp cinnamon.
