AMLODIPINE SIDE EFFECTS

Posted on April 19, 2026 by Admin

Amlodipine is a commonly prescribed medicine used to treat high blood pressure and chest pain (angina). It works by relaxing blood vessels so blood flows more easily.

Like all medicines, it can have side effects—most are mild, but some are important to know.

⚠️ Common side effects

These are usually not dangerous and may improve over time:

  • Swelling in ankles or feet (most common)
  • Flushing (warmth or redness of face)
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Headache
  • Fatigue or tiredness
  • Mild stomach discomfort

🧠 Less common but important side effects

  • Fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Feeling unusually weak
  • Increased sleepiness
  • Mood changes (rare)

🚨 Rare but serious side effects

Seek medical help if you notice:

  • severe swelling of legs or rapid weight gain
  • chest pain that worsens
  • fainting or severe dizziness
  • signs of allergic reaction (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

🧠 Important facts

  • Swelling in the ankles is very common with amlodipine
  • It is often dose-related (higher dose = more swelling risk)
  • Many people take it safely for years under medical supervision

✔️ Bottom line

Amlodipine is generally safe and effective, but watch for swelling, dizziness, and unusual fatigue, and report serious symptoms to a doctor.

If you want, I can explain how to reduce amlodipine side effects or what alternatives doctors sometimes use.
