2. Make the cream sauce

  1. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Stir in flour and cook 1–2 minutes to form a roux.
  3. Gradually whisk in milk or cream until smooth.
  4. Cook 3–5 minutes, stirring constantly, until sauce thickens.
  5. Add shredded cheese, salt, pepper, and optional seasonings. Stir until cheese melts and sauce is smooth.

3. Serve

  1. Slice baked potatoes open and fluff the insides with a fork.
  2. Pour cream sauce generously over each potato.
  3. Optional: top with chopped chives, bacon bits, or extra cheese.

  • Make it extra creamy: Use half-and-half or heavy cream in the sauce.
  • Cheese options: Gruyère or fontina gives a richer, nutty flavor.
