Here’s a warm, comforting recipe for Cabbage Stew — hearty, healthy, and perfect for a slow-cooked meal.

🥬 Cabbage Stew

🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 1 small head of cabbage, chopped
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 2 potatoes, diced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (400 g / 14 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 3 cups (720 ml) vegetable or chicken broth
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • Optional: 200 g smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced
  • Optional garnish: chopped parsley

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Sauté (Optional but adds flavor)
    • In a large pot, heat 1–2 tbsp oil.
    • Sauté onion and garlic for 2–3 minutes until fragrant.
    • Add sausage if using, cook until slightly browned.
  2. Add Vegetables & Liquid
    • Add cabbage, carrots, and potatoes.
    • Stir in diced tomatoes and broth.
  3. Season & Simmer
    • Add paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper.
    • Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer 30–40 minutes, until vegetables are tender.
  4. Serve
    • Taste and adjust seasoning.
    • Garnish with parsley and serve hot.

💡 Tips

  • For a hearty winter stew, add beans or lentils.
  • A splash of vinegar or a teaspoon of sugar can balance acidity from tomatoes.
  • Leftovers taste even better the next day as flavors meld.

If you want, I can give a slow cooker version of cabbage stew that’s extra rich and hands-off, perfect for busy days.
