🥬 Slow Cooker Cabbage Recipe

Cooking cabbage in a slow cooker makes it tender, flavorful, and perfect as a side dish or part of a main meal like corned beef and cabbage.

🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped or cut into wedges
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp butter or olive oil
  • ½ cup broth (vegetable, chicken, or beef)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: bacon, smoked sausage, or corned beef

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Prepare cabbage – Remove outer leaves and chop into wedges or bite-size pieces.
  2. Layer ingredients – In the slow cooker, place onions and garlic first, then cabbage on top. Add butter and pour in broth.
  3. Season – Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Optional: add cooked bacon or sausage for extra flavor.
  4. Cook – Cover and cook on low 4–6 hours or high 2–3 hours, until cabbage is tender.
  5. Serve – Fluff gently with a fork. Can be served as a side or with mashed potatoes, rice, or corned beef.

💡 Tips

  • For more flavor, add a splash of apple cider vinegar or a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • Avoid overcooking if you want cabbage with some texture; longer cooking yields very soft cabbage.
  • Slow cooker cabbage is great for batch cooking and reheats well.

If you want, I can also give you a creamy slow-cooker cabbage recipe that tastes like a comfort-food casserole.
