Making banana chips in an air fryer is super easy, healthy, and way better than store-bought β no deep frying needed! They’re naturally sweet, crunchy (or chewy if you prefer), and a great snack on the go.
π Air Fryer Banana Chips
π Time: 15β25 minutes
π½ Serves: 2β4
π₯ Air fryer temp: 180Β°Fβ200Β°F (82Β°Cβ93Β°C) β low & slow for crispiness
π§Ύ Ingredients:
-
2 ripe but firm bananas (yellow with a few brown spots is perfect)
-
1 tsp lemon juice or apple cider vinegar (optional, prevents browning)
-
1 tsp coconut oil or neutral oil (optional, for better crisp)
-
Pinch of salt
-
(Optional) cinnamon, nutmeg, or a drizzle of honey for extra flavor
π¨βπ³ Instructions:
1. Prep the bananas:
-
Peel and slice bananas thinly β about β -inch thick or thinner for crispy chips.
-
Optional: Soak slices in a bowl of water + lemon juice for 2β3 minutes to help preserve color.
-
Pat slices completely dry with paper towels.
2. Season:
-
Toss slices lightly with oil and a pinch of salt.
-
Add cinnamon or sweet spices if you like.
3. Air fry:
-
Preheat air fryer to 180Β°F (82Β°C) (or the lowest temp your air fryer allows).
-
Lay banana slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket or on trays. Donβt overlap.
-
Air fry for 15β20 minutes, flipping halfway.
-
Check at 10β12 min: thinner slices will crisp faster.
-
You want them golden and dry, not dark brown.
-
4. Cool to crisp:
-
Let banana chips cool on a wire rack or paper towel β theyβll crisp up more as they cool.
π§ Storage:
-
Store in an airtight container at room temp for up to 1 week.
-
If they soften, pop them back in the air fryer for 3β5 minutes to re-crisp.
π Flavor Variations:
-
Sweet & spicy: cinnamon + cayenne
-
Savory: garlic powder + sea salt
-
Tropical: sprinkle of coconut sugar or lime zest
