Posted on March 13, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a full guide for making Meatballs and Potatoes in a Slow Cooker — an easy, comforting, one-pot meal:

Meatballs and Potatoes in a Slow Cooker

1. Ingredients

For the meatballs:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef, turkey, or a mix
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, thyme)

For the slow cooker meal:

  • 1.5–2 lbs (700–900 g) small potatoes, halved or quartered
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef or chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: fresh parsley for garnish

2. Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the meatballs

  1. In a bowl, mix ground meat, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, egg, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and herbs until just combined.
  2. Shape into 1–1.5 inch (2.5–4 cm) meatballs.

Step 2: Layer in the slow cooker

  1. Place halved potatoes and sliced onions at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  2. Add garlic, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Gently place meatballs on top.
  4. Pour broth and tomato sauce over the meatballs and potatoes.

Step 3: Cook

  • Cover and cook on low for 6–7 hours or high for 3–4 hours, until meatballs are cooked through and potatoes are tender.

Step 4: Serve

  • Garnish with fresh parsley.
  • Serve hot as a one-pot meal. Optionally, add a side of steamed vegetables or a simple salad.

3. Tips for the Best Slow Cooker Meatballs & Potatoes

  • Even cooking: Cut potatoes into similar-sized pieces.
  • Extra flavor: Sauté onions and garlic before adding to the slow cooker for deeper flavor.
  • Cheesy twist: Sprinkle shredded cheese over meatballs 10–15 minutes before serving.
  • Freezing: This meal freezes well; make in batches and freeze for future easy dinners.

If you want, I can also give a creamy slow-cooker version with a cheese and cream sauce that turns this into a rich, hearty comfort dish.

Do you want me to do that?
