Baked potato

Here’s a simple guide to making a perfect baked potato—crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside.


🥔 Classic Baked Potato

Ingredients (serves 1–2)

  • 1 large russet potato (or any starchy potato)
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil or melted butter
  • Salt, to taste
  • Optional toppings: sour cream, butter, shredded cheese, chives, bacon bits

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven
    • Set oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Prepare the potato
    • Wash and scrub the potato thoroughly.
    • Pat dry with a paper towel.
    • Rub olive oil or melted butter over the skin and sprinkle with salt.
  3. Bake the potato
    • Prick the potato a few times with a fork to allow steam to escape.
    • Place directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet.
    • Bake for 45–60 minutes, depending on size, until skin is crispy and a fork slides easily into the center.
  4. Serve
    • Cut a slit down the center, fluff the inside with a fork, and add your favorite toppings.

💡 Tips

  • For extra crispy skin, rub generously with oil and sprinkle coarse salt.
  • Microwave shortcut: cook on high for 5–7 minutes, then finish in the oven for 10–15 minutes for crisp skin.
  • Russet potatoes are ideal because they’re starchy and fluffy when baked.
