Cheesy potato balls

Posted on March 13, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for Cheesy Potato Balls—crispy on the outside, gooey and cheesy on the inside.

🥔 Cheesy Potato Balls

Ingredients (makes ~12–15 balls)

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (preferably cooled)
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese (or mozzarella for extra stretch)
  • 1/2 cup cooked bacon bits or ham (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the potato mixture
    • In a bowl, combine mashed potatoes, shredded cheese, bacon/ham, green onions, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Shape the balls
    • Take a small handful of the mixture and roll it into a ball (about 1–2 inches in diameter).
  3. Coat the balls
    • Roll each ball in flour, dip in beaten eggs, and then coat with breadcrumbs.
  4. Fry the balls
    • Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium heat.
    • Fry potato balls in batches for 2–4 minutes until golden brown.
    • Remove and drain on paper towels.
  5. Serve
    • Serve hot with ketchup, sour cream, or your favorite dipping sauce.

💡 Tips

  • For extra cheesy goodness, insert a small cube of cheese inside each potato ball before coating.
  • You can bake them at 400°F (200°C) for 15–20 minutes instead of frying for a healthier version.
  • Leftovers can be frozen before frying—just fry or bake directly from frozen.

If you want, I can also show you a crispy oven-baked version with Parmesan and herbs that’s crunchy without deep frying.
