Crumb cake

Crumb Cake is a soft, buttery cake topped with a thick layer of sweet crumbs (streusel). It’s especially popular for breakfast or coffee time.


🍰 Classic Crumb Cake

Ingredients

For the Crumb Topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup melted butter

For the Cake

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven
    • Set oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan.
  2. Make the crumb topping
    • Mix flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
    • Stir in melted butter until crumbly.
    • Set aside.
  3. Prepare the cake batter
    • In a bowl mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
    • In another bowl whisk milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla.
    • Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.
  4. Assemble
    • Spread the batter in the prepared pan.
    • Sprinkle the crumb mixture evenly over the top.
  5. Bake
    • Bake for 30–35 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool and serve
    • Let cool slightly, then slice and enjoy.

Optional Toppings

  • Powdered sugar dusting
  • Simple vanilla glaze
  • Fresh berries on the side

💡 Tip: For a bakery-style crumb cake, make extra crumb topping—the thick crumb layer is what makes it special.
