-
2 tablespoons soy sauce
-
1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional, adds depth)
-
1 teaspoon cornstarch
-
2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
-
1 large onion, sliced
-
1 large green bell pepper, sliced
-
3 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper (or more to taste)
-
1/2 teaspoon sugar
-
1/4 cup beef broth or water
-
1 tablespoon rice vinegar or Chinese black vinegar (optional, for tang)
-
1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
-
Salt, to taste
-
Cooked steamed rice, for serving
Instructions:
-
Marinate the beef:
In a bowl, combine sliced beef, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and cornstarch. Mix well and let marinate for at least 15 minutes. -
Cook the beef:
Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat.
Add beef in a single layer and stir-fry quickly until just browned, about 2-3 minutes. Remove beef and set aside. -
Cook the veggies:
In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon oil. Add sliced onions and bell peppers. Stir-fry until slightly softened but still crisp, about 3-4 minutes.
Add minced garlic and stir-fry for 30 seconds until fragrant. -
Combine:
Return beef to the skillet. Add black pepper, sugar, beef broth, and rice vinegar. Stir everything together and cook for another 2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly. -
Finish:
Drizzle with sesame oil if using, adjust salt if needed, and give one last toss. -
Serve:
Serve hot over steamed rice.
