Old-Fashioned Macaroni and Cheese

Posted on March 12, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a classic Old-Fashioned Macaroni and Cheese recipe—creamy, cheesy, and comforting 🧀✨

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 2 cups Macaroni Pasta
  • 2 cups Milk (whole milk preferred)
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 2 tbsp All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 cups Cheddar Cheese, shredded (or a mix of cheddar and mozzarella)
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ¼ tsp Black Pepper
  • ¼ tsp Mustard Powder (optional, adds depth)
  • Optional topping: ½ cup Breadcrumbs mixed with 1 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Cook the macaroni
    • Boil macaroni in salted water according to package directions until just al dente.
    • Drain and set aside.
  2. Make the cheese sauce
    • In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
    • Stir in flour and cook 1–2 minutes to make a roux.
    • Gradually whisk in milk to avoid lumps.
    • Cook until sauce thickens (about 5 minutes).
    • Remove from heat and stir in shredded cheese, mustard powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  3. Combine pasta and sauce
    • Add cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce. Stir until all pasta is coated.
  4. Optional baked topping
    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Pour macaroni and cheese into a greased baking dish.
    • Sprinkle breadcrumb mixture on top.
    • Bake 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  5. Serve warm
    • Perfect as a main dish or side for meats, grilled vegetables, or salads.

✅ Tips

  • For extra creaminess, stir in ½ cup cream cheese or a splash of heavy cream.
  • Use sharp cheddar for stronger flavor or mix with gruyère for a richer, nutty taste.
  • Leftovers reheat well in the microwave or oven—add a splash of milk to keep it creamy.

If you want, I can also give a stovetop version in 20 minutes that skips baking but is just as cheesy and indulgent.

Do you want me to give that quick stovetop version?
