🥧 Shepherd’s Pie
Shepherd’s pie is a comforting baked dish made with minced meat and vegetables topped with creamy mashed potatoes.
🧾 Ingredients
Meat Filling
- 500 g minced lamb (traditional) or beef
- 1 onion (chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 carrot (diced)
- ½ cup peas
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup beef or chicken broth
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried thyme (optional)
- 2 tbsp oil
Mashed Potato Topping
- 3–4 potatoes (peeled and chopped)
- 2 tbsp butter
- ¼ cup milk
- Salt to taste
👩🍳 Instructions
1️⃣ Make the Mashed Potatoes
- Boil potatoes in salted water until soft (15–20 minutes).
- Drain and mash with butter, milk, and salt until creamy.
2️⃣ Cook the Filling
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Cook onion and garlic until soft.
- Add minced meat and cook until browned.
- Add carrot, peas, tomato paste, broth, salt, pepper, and thyme.
- Simmer for 10 minutes until slightly thick.
3️⃣ Assemble
- Spread the meat mixture in a baking dish.
- Cover evenly with mashed potatoes.
4️⃣ Bake
- Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 20–25 minutes until the top is slightly golden.
🍽️ Tips
- Sprinkle cheese on top for extra flavor.
- Use a fork to make lines on the mashed potatoes so they crisp nicely.
