Butter Toffee Pretzels

Butter Toffee Pretzels are a sweet–salty snack made by coating crunchy pretzels in a buttery toffee glaze and baking until caramelized. They’re very popular for holidays, parties, and homemade gifts.


Butter Toffee Pretzels Recipe

Ingredients

  • 8 cups pretzel twists or mini pretzels
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 tbsp light corn syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • Optional: 1 cup chopped pecans or almonds

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 250°F (120°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Spread pretzels evenly on the baking sheet. If using nuts, sprinkle them with the pretzels.
  3. Make the toffee sauce:
    • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter.
    • Stir in brown sugar and corn syrup.
    • Bring to a gentle boil and cook for about 3 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Finish the sauce:
    • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and baking soda (it will foam slightly).
  5. Coat pretzels:
    • Pour the toffee mixture over the pretzels and toss gently to coat.
  6. Bake:
    • Bake for 45–60 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes so the coating caramelizes evenly.
  7. Cool:
    • Spread out to cool completely. The coating will harden into a crunchy toffee shell.

Tips

  • Sprinkle sea salt on top for extra sweet–salty flavor.
  • Add chocolate drizzle after cooling for a dessert-style snack.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
