Raw cubed beef in a slow cooker

Cooking raw cubed beef in a slow cooker is perfect for making tender dishes like stew, curry, or shredded beef. The long, low heat slowly breaks down the meat so it becomes soft and flavorful. 🥩🍲


Basic Slow Cooker Method

Ingredients

  • 500 g – 1 kg beef cubes (stew meat or chuck)
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 2–3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 2 cups beef broth or water
  • 1–2 carrots (optional)
  • 2 potatoes (optional)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika or mixed herbs
  • 1 tbsp oil (optional)

Instructions 👩‍🍳

  1. Optional sear (for better flavor):
    • Heat oil in a pan and quickly brown the beef cubes for 2–3 minutes.
  2. Add to slow cooker:
    • Put beef, onion, garlic, vegetables, and seasonings in the slow cooker.
  3. Add liquid:
    • Pour in beef broth or water.
  4. Cook:
    • Low: 7–8 hours
    • High: 4–5 hours
  5. Finish:
    • Stir and taste for seasoning.
    • If you want thicker sauce, mix 1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water and stir in during the last 20 minutes.
