Crinkle cut fries

🍟 Crinkle-Cut Fries

Crinkle-cut fries are potato fries with a wavy, ridged shape. The ridges are created using a special crinkle cutter knife, giving the fries their signature texture and appearance.

🥔 What Makes Them Special

  • Wavy ridges: Increase surface area, so fries become extra crispy.
  • Hold more seasoning or sauce: The grooves trap salt, spices, ketchup, cheese sauce, etc.
  • Thicker cut: Usually slightly thicker than regular straight fries, making them soft inside and crispy outside.

🍳 How They’re Made (Basic Method)

Ingredients

  • Potatoes (Russet potatoes work best)
  • Oil (for frying or baking)
  • Salt
  • Optional spices: paprika, garlic powder, pepper

Steps

  1. Wash and peel potatoes (peeling optional).
  2. Cut using a crinkle cutter to create the wavy shape.
  3. Soak in cold water for 20–30 minutes to remove excess starch (helps crispiness).
  4. Dry well with a towel.
  5. Cook:
    • Deep fry: 170–180°C (340–355°F) for about 4–6 minutes.
    • Oven bake: 220°C (425°F) for 25–30 minutes with a little oil.
    • Air fryer: 200°C (400°F) for about 15–20 minutes.
  6. Season immediately with salt or spices.

🍔 Popular Ways to Serve

  • With ketchup, mayonnaise, or chili sauce
  • Cheese fries with melted cheese and jalapeños
  • Loaded fries with bacon, cheese, and sour cream
  • As a side with burgers, fried chicken, or sandwiches

💡 Tip

Double-frying (fry once at lower heat, then again at higher heat) makes fries extra crispy on the outside and fluffy inside.
