Aromatic reed air freshener

Posted on March 7, 2026 by Admin

An aromatic reed air freshener is a simple, elegant way to make a room smell fresh without sprays or electricity. Here’s what you need to know:

What It Is

  • A small bottle or vase filled with fragrant liquid (essential oils, fragrance oils, or a mix with a carrier like mineral oil or vodka).
  • Reeds or rattan sticks inserted into the liquid.
  • The reeds absorb the scented liquid and release fragrance into the air continuously.

How It Works

  1. Capillary action: The liquid travels up the reeds.
  2. Evaporation: The fragrance slowly disperses into the room.
  3. Adjustable intensity: Flipping the reeds makes the scent stronger.

DIY Reed Air Freshener Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup carrier oil (like fractionated coconut, almond, or mineral oil)
  • 20–30 drops essential oil or fragrance oil of your choice (lavender, citrus, vanilla, eucalyptus, etc.)
  • A small glass bottle or vase
  • Rattan reeds

Instructions:

  1. Pour carrier oil into the bottle.
  2. Add essential oils and stir or swirl gently.
  3. Insert reeds into the bottle. Let them soak for a few hours.
  4. Flip reeds every few days for stronger fragrance.

Tips

  • Avoid water as the main base—it evaporates too quickly and can cause mold.
  • Use 6–10 reeds for small rooms, more for larger spaces.
  • Keep away from pets and children if using strong essential oils.
  • Change the liquid every few weeks for a fresh scent.
