Hamburger Hash

Posted on March 3, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a hearty, flavorful recipe for Hamburger Hash—a classic comfort food that’s quick to make and perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and diced into small cubes
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil or butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp paprika (optional)
  • ½ tsp dried thyme or rosemary (optional)
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheese, fried egg, hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Cook the potatoes: Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add potatoes, season with salt and pepper, and cook until golden and tender (~10–12 minutes). Remove and set aside.
  2. Cook the beef: In the same skillet, add remaining oil and cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Add vegetables: Stir in onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook 3–5 minutes until softened.
  4. Combine: Return potatoes to the skillet. Sprinkle in paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine and cook another 2–3 minutes so flavors meld.
  5. Serve: Top with shredded cheese or a fried egg if desired. Serve hot.

💡 Tips

  • For extra crispiness, let the potatoes sit in the pan without stirring for 2–3 minutes before flipping to get a nice golden crust.
  • Add frozen corn or peas near the end of cooking for more color and flavor.
  • This is versatile—swap ground beef for sausage, turkey, or even plant-based crumbles.

If you want, I can also make a one-pan shortcut version of hamburger hash that’s done in 20 minutes for busy weeknights. Do you want me to do that?
