Cooking rice is simple once you get the hang of it! Here’s a basic method for cooking white rice on the stovetop. Let me know if you’re using a different type (brown, jasmine, basmati, etc.) or a rice cooker.

🍚 Basic Stovetop Method for White Rice

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup white rice (long-grain or medium-grain)

  • 2 cups water

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)

  • 1 teaspoon oil or butter (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the Rice (Optional but Recommended)

    • Rinse the rice in a fine mesh strainer under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and helps prevent stickiness.

  2. Boil Water

    • In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.

  3. Add Rice

    • Stir in the rinsed rice, salt, and oil or butter if using.

  4. Simmer

    • Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid, and simmer for 18–20 minutes. Do not lift the lid.

  5. Rest

    • Remove from heat and let the rice sit, covered, for 5–10 minutes.

  6. Fluff and Serve

    • Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.

🍴 Tips:

  • For brown rice, use 2 ½ cups of water per cup of rice and cook for about 40–45 minutes.

  • A rice cooker or Instant Pot can make this process even easier and more consistent.
