Classic Baked Potato

Ingredients (serves 1–4)

  • 1–4 large russet potatoes (russets are best for baking)
  • 1–2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Optional toppings: butter, sour cream, cheese, chives, bacon bits

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven
    Preheat to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Prep the potatoes
    • Scrub each potato thoroughly.
    • Dry with a paper towel.
    • Poke several holes with a fork to allow steam to escape.
  3. Season and oil
    Rub each potato with olive oil and sprinkle generously with salt. This helps create a crisp skin.
  4. Bake
    Place potatoes directly on the oven rack (or on a baking sheet for easier cleanup). Bake for 45–60 minutes, depending on size, until the skin is crispy and a fork easily pierces the potato.
  5. Serve
    Slice open and fluff the inside with a fork. Add your favorite toppings like butter, sour cream, cheese, or chives.

  • Crispier skin: Bake directly on the oven rack instead of a pan.
  • Faster option: Microwave for 5–7 minutes, then finish in the oven for 10–15 minutes to crisp the skin.
