🧈 Fluffy Butter Rolls
🕒 Prep time: 20 min (plus rising)
🍞 Bake time: 15–18 min
🍽️ Makes: 12–15 rolls
✨ Ingredients:
-
3½ cups (420 g) all-purpose flour (plus more as needed)
-
2¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
-
¼ cup (50 g) sugar
-
1 tsp salt
-
¾ cup (180 ml) warm milk (around 110°F / 43°C)
-
¼ cup (60 ml) warm water
-
1 large egg
-
⅓ cup (75 g) unsalted butter, softened
-
Optional: melted butter for brushing
🥣 Instructions:
1. Activate yeast:
In a bowl, combine warm water, 1 tsp sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
2. Make the dough:
In a large bowl (or stand mixer), combine flour, sugar, and salt.
Add yeast mixture, warm milk, egg, and softened butter. Mix until a soft dough forms.
3. Knead:
Knead the dough for about 8–10 minutes by hand (or 5–6 minutes in a mixer) until smooth and elastic.
Add a little flour if dough is too sticky, but it should stay soft.
4. First rise:
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
5. Shape rolls:
Punch down the dough and divide into 12–15 equal pieces.
Roll each into a smooth ball and place in a greased 9×13-inch pan or on a baking sheet.
6. Second rise:
Cover loosely and let rise again for 30–45 minutes, until puffy.
7. Bake:
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
Bake rolls for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
8. Butter & serve:
Brush warm rolls with melted butter for an extra soft and shiny finish.
✅ Tips:
-
For extra richness, sub half the milk with buttermilk.
-
These freeze beautifully — let them cool, wrap tightly, and freeze.
-
Reheat in the oven or microwave with a little butter on top.
