Here’s a classic recipe for a delicious Nougat Bar — chewy, nutty, and sweet, perfect for a homemade treat or candy gift!


🍬 Classic Nougat Bar

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups granulated sugar

  • ½ cup light corn syrup

  • ¼ cup water

  • 2 large egg whites

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1¼ cups toasted nuts (almonds, pistachios, or hazelnuts work great)

  • Optional: dried fruits (chopped cherries, cranberries) or chocolate chips


Instructions:

  1. Prepare your pan:
    Line an 8×8-inch square pan with parchment paper and lightly oil or butter it.

  2. Cook sugar syrup:
    In a saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
    Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
    Bring to a boil without stirring and cook until the syrup reaches 250°F (hard-ball stage) on a candy thermometer.

  3. Whip egg whites:
    While the syrup cooks, beat egg whites in a large bowl until stiff peaks form.

  4. Combine syrup & egg whites:
    When the syrup reaches temperature, slowly pour it in a thin stream into the whipped egg whites while beating continuously on medium-high speed.
    Continue beating until mixture thickens and becomes glossy (about 5–7 minutes).

  5. Add flavor and nuts:
    Beat in vanilla extract.
    Fold in toasted nuts and any optional add-ins gently.

  6. Set the nougat:
    Quickly pour the nougat into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
    Let it cool completely at room temperature until firm.

  7. Cut & serve:
    Remove from pan, peel off parchment, and cut into bars or squares.


Tips:

  • Work quickly once syrup is ready — nougat sets fast!

  • Store nougat bars in an airtight container, separated by wax paper, at room temperature.
