🍯 Toffee Pecan Dream Bars

Yields: 16 bars

  • ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar

  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour

  • ¼ tsp salt

Topping:

  • 1 (14 oz / 396 g) can sweetened condensed milk

  • 1 large egg

  • 1½ cups (180 g) chopped pecans

  • 1 cup (160 g) toffee bits (like Heath or Skor)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • Optional: pinch of salt or a sprinkle of sea salt for topping

🔪 Instructions:

1. Prepare the oven & pan:

  • Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F).

  • Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper or grease well.

2. Make the crust:

  • In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  • Add flour and salt; mix until crumbly and combined.

  • Press mixture evenly into the bottom of your prepared pan.

  • Bake for 15 minutes, or until just set and lightly golden at the edges.

3. Make the topping:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together sweetened condensed milk, egg, and vanilla.

  • Stir in chopped pecans and toffee bits.

4. Assemble and bake:

  • Pour topping over the warm crust and spread evenly.

  • Return to oven and bake for another 15–20 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and set.

5. Cool & serve:

  • Allow to cool completely in the pan before cutting into bars.

  • For cleaner cuts, chill in the fridge for 1 hour first.

Tips & Variations:

  • Add chocolate chips to the topping for an extra indulgent twist.

  • Substitute walnuts or almonds for pecans if preferred.

  • A drizzle of melted dark chocolate after cooling adds a fancy finish.
