Oklahoma Nut Candy is an old-fashioned, Southern-style treat — rich, creamy, and packed with nuts. It’s similar to a cross between fudge and praline, often made with marshmallows and sweetened condensed milk. Here’s a classic version:
🍬 Oklahoma Nut Candy (Old-Fashioned Style)
Ingredients:
-
2 cups granulated sugar
-
1 cup evaporated milk (NOT sweetened condensed)
-
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
-
1½ cups miniature marshmallows
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
2–3 cups chopped pecans or walnuts (toasted for best flavor)
🔪 Instructions:
-
Prep a pan:
Butter a square baking dish (8×8 or 9×9) or line it with parchment paper. -
Cook the base:
In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, evaporated milk, and butter.
Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil for about 5 minutes, or until it reaches a soft-ball stage (~235°F / 112°C) on a candy thermometer. -
Add marshmallows:
Remove from heat and immediately stir in the marshmallows and vanilla.
Stir until smooth and fully melted. -
Add nuts:
Stir in the chopped nuts until well coated and evenly mixed. -
Pour & set:
Pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Spread evenly.
Let it cool completely at room temperature (or chill to set faster). -
Cut & serve:
Once set, cut into squares and store in an airtight container.
✅ Tips:
-
Use toasted pecans for extra flavor.
-
Add a pinch of salt or use salted butter if you like sweet-salty contrast.
-
For a festive touch, add a handful of chopped candied cherries or coconut.
