Here’s what a knee X-ray typically looks like and what doctors examine in it.
🦴 Knee X-ray (what you’re seeing)
🔍 What doctors look for in a knee X-ray
A knee X-ray shows the bones and joint space, mainly:
- 🦴 Femur (thigh bone)
- 🦴 Tibia (shin bone)
- 🦴 Patella (kneecap)
- ⚖️ Joint space (cartilage area between bones)
- 🧱 Signs of arthritis (wear and tear)
- 💥 Fractures or cracks
- 🧂 Bone spurs (extra bone growth)
⚠️ Important limitation
An X-ray does NOT clearly show:
- Ligaments (ACL, MCL injuries)
- Meniscus tears
- Early cartilage damage
For those, doctors usually use MRI, not X-ray.
If you want, you can tell me your knee problem (pain, swelling, injury), and I can explain what an X-ray would likely show in your case.
