How to Clean a Burnt Pot or Pan with Baking Soda

Posted on April 22, 2026 by Admin

Cleaning a burnt pot or pan with baking soda is one of the easiest and safest methods.

You can use Sodium bicarbonate like this:

🍳 Method 1: Boil + scrub (best for heavy burns)

  1. Fill the burnt pan with water
  2. Add 2–3 tablespoons of baking soda
  3. Bring it to a gentle boil for 5–10 minutes
  4. Turn off heat and let it cool a bit
  5. Scrub with a sponge or wooden spoon
  6. Wash normally with dish soap

👉 The burnt layer softens and lifts off easily.

🍳 Method 2: Baking soda paste (for stubborn stains)

  1. Mix baking soda + a little water to form a thick paste
  2. Spread it over burnt areas
  3. Let it sit for 15–30 minutes (or overnight for very bad burns)
  4. Scrub gently and rinse

🍳 Method 3: Vinegar + baking soda (strong cleaning)

  1. Sprinkle baking soda on burnt area
  2. Add a little vinegar
  3. Let it fizz for a few minutes
  4. Scrub and rinse

⚠️ Tips

  • Don’t use metal scrubbers on non-stick pans
  • Repeat if burn marks are very thick
  • Avoid harsh chemicals—baking soda is usually enough

🧠 Why it works

Baking soda is mildly abrasive and alkaline, so it:

  • loosens burnt food
  • breaks grease bonds
  • helps lift stains without damaging most cookware

If you want, I can show you how to remove burnt oil smell from pans too or how to clean non-stick pans safely.
