Chlorophytum comosum is a very popular, easy-to-grow indoor plant known for its long green leaves and small “baby plant” offshoots that hang from the mother plant.

🌿 Key facts

  • Common name: Spider plant
  • Type: Evergreen perennial houseplant
  • Origin: Tropical and southern Africa
  • Famous for: Air-purifying ability and fast growth

☀️ Light

  • Prefers bright, indirect light
  • Can tolerate low light, but grows slower

  • Do not overwater (root rot risk)
  • Likes slightly moist soil, not soggy

🌡️ Temperature

  • Ideal: 18–27°C
  • Keep away from cold drafts and frost

🌱 Soil

  • Well-draining potting mix
  • Add perlite or sand for better drainage

🌸 Growth features

  • Produces “spiderettes” (baby plants) on long stems
  • These can be replanted easily to grow new plants

🐾 Safety

  • Non-toxic to cats and dogs (pet-friendly plant)

⚠️ Common problems

  • Brown tips → fluoride in water or low humidity
  • Yellow leaves → overwatering
  • Drooping → underwatering or root stress

If you want, tell me where you’re keeping it (indoor/outdoor, light conditions), and I can help you fix any specific problem with your plant.
